Adversity births innovation. In lieu of a brick and mortar gallery, I launched a virtual gallery to share the work of working artists I admire and to share my own work, as well. I hope you enjoy. If you do, please tell your friends. Spread the word. A virtual show doesn’t get traffic off the street, but with your help people unfamiliar with my site can discover it just the same. Also, check out our publications page. We publish a catalog of each Exhibit.
Van Vliet Gallery is an online space that explores art, asemics, and words.
In the fall of 2020, determined to bring my work and the work of artists I admire into the world, I started Van Vliet Gallery, an online gallery that promotes an exploration of art, asemics, and words.

I became interested in asemics in the fall of 2018 after dreaming of an image of asemics over a full moon. I wasn’t familiar with the asemic movement at the time, but as I learned more, I became engaged in both the practice and study of asemics.

The Minnesota Center For Book Arts defines asemics in this way:  Asemic writing is a wordless semantic form that often has the appearance of abstract calligraphy. It allows writers to present visual narratives that move beyond language and are open to interpretation, relying on the viewer for context and meaning.

My newest books are She Speaks in Tongues (Anhinga Press,) a collection of poems and asemic writings, and Fluency: A Collection of Asemic Writings (Shanti Arts.) I’m a Forward Prize, a three-time Pushcart Prize, and Best of the Net, nominee. And my poems have appeared in Acumen, Poet Lore, Green Mountains Review, Crannog Magazine among others.

My paintings have been featured in,
WAAVe Global Gallery, Women Asemic Writers, UTSANGA.IT, Still Point Art Quarterly, Stone Voices Magazine, Champlain’s Lake Rediscovered, and Gate Posts with No Gate: The Leg Paint Project. I’m a member of WAAVe Global (Women Asemic Artists & Visual Poets) and Asemic Writing: The New Post-Literate.

I’m a co-founder and editor of deLuge Journal, an Integrative Dreamwork analyst, and administrator of the New England Young Writers' Conference at Bread Loaf, Middlebury College. I live in Vermont, USA.

If you are interested in having your work showcased:

Our landing page hosts the Evince Exhibit, an exhibit that showcases artist's work. Part of having your work showcased on our Evince Exhibit Gallery is that an exhibit catalog is created for the show which continues to be available after the show has ended.

Showing artists receive 100% of proceeds for the work they sell. How does this work? All sales go through the artist. VVG posts contact information for the artist and those interested in purchasing contact the artist directly. Shows are made up of 18 pieces.

Showing artists receive up to 5 exhibit catalogs at cost. (see our publications page for examples of previous shows)

Showing artists are asked to promote their show through their own social media venues and promotional methods. VVG will also promote through our venues of promotions.

If you are interested in being showcased on our Evince Exhibit Gallery contact VVG with 3-4 examples of your work, a short bio, and a short introduction to yourself.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Warmly, Karla Van Vliet
