Artist Statement:
I embarked on this artistic journey in 2018, seeking solace during a time of high stress, anxiety, and depression in my life. I decided to take out my art supplies each day I was able and create art as a healthy way of coping with mental health challenges. Through this steadfast commitment, I unearthed not only a sanctuary in the creative realm but also a sense of belonging, forging bonds with fellow artists and visual poets who understood the language of expression without words.
With each new work, I discovered a remarkable alchemy at play. The anxious thoughts that once stormed my mind were transformed into a symphony of serenity. The gentle flow of radiant inks combined with sacred, life-giving water, as well as the release I felt adding the final touch of asemic writing to these paintings, lit my consciousness with the glow of inspiration and hope.
The inclusion of asemic writing in these paintings is a very important part of my process in creating this art. For me, asemic writing is about emptiness, the wordless word, coming face to face with the unknown and unknowable. It is energy manifested in physical form, limitless, eternal. Having spent 6 years creating this type of art, I now write asemic script in my dreams as well.
The joy of creation transcends mere artistry. It is an odyssey of the spirit, a testament to the resilience of a human soul. Through my art, I aspire to not only journey to the uncharted depths of my own consciousness, but to inspire others to find their own paths to self-discovery and peace through creative acts.
In the boundless expanse of creativity, we find not only solace but deep connection with our fellow humans - common threads that bind us, weaving a beautiful tapestry of shared experiences and aspirations that transcend the limitations of the known world, beckoning us to come closer to the enigmas of life and find joy in the unanswered questions together.
Asemic Poetica is an ongoing series composed of more than 450 paintings, each sized 4.5 x 6 inches, in abstract expressionist style, accompanied by asemic writing. For every painting counted and kept, there once existed another that was given away or cut to create more than 1,300 bookmarks, each a tiny portal to wonder and discovery. The bookmarks are shared in Little Free Libraries, tucked into books at thrift stores, and left in unexpected places as gifts for fellow travelers, lovers and dreamers.
