Artist Statement:
My wd series has become my most important body of work. These Warehouse Drawings (wd’s) are artifacts of my process of living and working both inside and outside the studio. Each wd work begins as a functional piece of paper, folded and carried with me throughout the day, and marked with date, place, and daily minutiae. Later in the studio I chronologically staple them to boards, usually working on 20 at a time, drawing and painting on them, often in multiple layers over many days, weeks and sometimes months in response to whatever is happening in my world at each session.
The last step of this process is deciding orientation, numbering on front, and on verso titling (wd + number), signing, dating by month and year, and noting studio by abbreviation. They are numbered in chronological order, starting with #1 when I began this series in 1996 and now are in excess of 9000. Making these wd’s has influenced the rest of my artwork. The portability, spontaneity, and obsessiveness of creating this wd series have all seeped into my other work, both subtly and overtly.
In this grouping I have chosen only works made in the month of August, spanning 20 years.
